Job Title: University Chaplain Location: Mutare Closing Date: 31 November 2025 Reports to: The Vice-Chancellor
Purpose of the Role: The Chaplain is responsible for creating programmes and activities aimed at enhancing the spiritual life of the University community (staff and students). He/she will provide counselling services, engage in community-welfare and coordinate church-related outreach programmes. |
Duties and Responsibilities |

Conduct worship services twice a week including special services (for example, Easter programmes). Coordinate student fellowship groups and their activities. Run special prayer programmes (for example, funeral and memorial services). Conduct counselling services for students and staff. Visit families of staff or students who are grieving, in hospital or home-based care, etc. Advise students individually or collectively on spiritual matters. Organise funerals for Africa University staff. Mobilise resources for the needy in the university community. Manage volunteer and mission activities (for example building churches and schools). Develop and manage the Chaplain’s budget. Decide on prioritising outreach activities and identifying preachers. Carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisor. |
Qualifications and Experience |

-A Master’s Degree in Theology and Pastoral Studies is required. -A Doctorate in Theology or Pastoral Care & Counselling will be considered an added advantage. -Must be an Ordained Pastor with a minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as a Chaplain at a tertiary institution. -Prior experience serving as a Pastor within the United Methodist Church will be an added advantage. -Demonstrated multicultural ministerial experience to support and promote Pan-African spiritual growth within a diverse campus environment. -A proven commitment to providing spiritual guidance, counselling and support to both students and staff. -Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills aligned with the values of holistic spiritual development. |
